I love to create scarves, shrugs, afghans, sweaters, and so many other items for family and friends!

I think over the years just about everyone in my family, including my husband, my daughter, my son, parents, sister, inlaws, friends, and my eleven nieces and nephews have all received knitted gifts from me for Christmas, birthdays, or graduations!
And with another niece or nephew on the way in 2006 - I get to do it all over again!!

When I was growing up, my grandmother crocheted the most beautiful tablecloths & doilies I had ever seen.
So many times I asked her to show me how she did that, and she would patiently try to help me learn, but I could never figure it out.

One afternoon when I was in high school, my girl friends and I were in the 5&10, (remember them?) and I found a little book on beginning knitting.

I bought a basic pair of needles and some yarn and was determined to learn how to knit!

And I did! And I've been
knitting ever since!

And from that point on I have been creating the most beautiful designs ever to come off a pair of knitting needles!

Three years ago my husband and I became New England innkeepers.

One of my particular joys had been transforming our guest rooms with new paint color, new quilts and duvets, and a beautiful, one-of-a-kind, color coordinated afghan, perfectly chosen and knitted by me, for the different rooms in our Inn.

I've also knitted placemats for our breakfast tables, scarves and baby blankets, and snowmen (yes, snowmen!) for my gift corner!

In this precarious world we live in, it’s “Get-back-to-basics” time - and
learning how to knit is one of those basics that just seem to keep getting better with age!!

There is nothing so frustrating than buying all the knitting supplies you need, your yarn, needles, etc., with a definite pattern in mind, then sitting down to begin and not know what all those knitting abbreviations mean!

You read the instructions over and over, slowly, then aloud, and still you can't figure it out!

So what do you do?

You put down your work, say "I'll try again later", and NEVER GO BACK TO IT!!

Am I right?

And there it sits, that pretty colored yarn specially bought for this scarf or sweater or afghan that you had your heart set on, and it will just sit there looking pretty, but will not be used for the project you had in mind.

I know, because I've been there, just like you.

I've been there many times before!!

I've bought dozens of knitting manuals, books, booklets, even tried the Internet for instructions, but when it's all not in one place, and you can't find the answer you're looking for, the next best thing to do is just give up.

Asking friends or family who are familiar with knitting can seem like a good idea, but many times they don't really have the knowledge or the know-how that you're looking for to learn knitting.
